'AGING WITH FOOD'

Everyone has a piece of special memory with relations to a certain food. This piece depicts food that consists of the greatest memories of an individual growing up.

Classic colour pencils

4 images placed side by side, connected with a red string. The red string consists of tangles and knots. The colour red is very auspicious in the Chinese culture. In ancient Chinese legend, the red string is connected no matter how many knots and tangles there are. This depicts the memories held between all 4 images, connecting them even though there might be knots (forgotten memories). Each image will still hold a great dear memory as the red string ties them altogether.

2nd image, 'KOPITIAM'

I used the most well-known food in kopitiams (Singapore hawker centre) - which are runny eggs, kaya toast and coffee. I represented them in their typical forms, with the traditional patterned plates and cup and the red plate.

It depicts my most go-to with my family when I was much younger.

4th image, 'FAST FOOD'

I showed the image of KFC, a popular fast food chain restaurant among people of all ages. It depicts my current lifestyle of being in a University, being away from family. With the lack of home-cooked food, fast food was always my number one choice when determining the food to eat.

1st image, "STEAM EGGS"

This image was my favourite as it carries great and meaningful memories to me. It shows an image of steam eggs being held in a flower-patterned bowl and wooden coaster. It is being held by my grandmother - jades and gold are shown on her hands.

This was the first image as I was always being fed steamed eggs when I was young. My grandmother was the one taking care of me in my youth, and this was one of the most common food that I had since young.
